Today’s engines, required to meet the exacting Tier 3 and 4 emissions standards by authorities including the U.S. Coastguard, almost always involve electric and electronic management systems that could prove a source of ignition if in contact with a flammable atmosphere.

The engine is a gas-powered engine (not diesel) which was explosion proof converted to Class 1, Division 2 for the NEC500. The Application has been for back-up power on a gas pipeline in USA.
